Medallions

Medallions medallions medallions...my soul speaks out through my hands. 

 

I started building the Agfossil (Silverfossil) collection right out of jewelry school in 1995.  I have hand fabricated them, carved them out of wax and

molded them into clay.  They represent the  connection I feel  with prehistoric earth.  Help add  perspective to our time here presently.

Element tags are ancient Tao  symbols for air, fire, earth and water.  breath, passion, center and fluidity.  A small sterling clip tag...can be worn anywhere to help bring balance to it's wearer.  The  little ting sound... the coolness of metal against the skin...a sensation reminder.

Other tags....like flow man and cosmic egg were created in 2001 while living in NYC.  The energy of the city brought the happy flow  guy from my head onto the metal.  Cosmic egg represents creation.  A bird dropped an egg into the ocean . From chaos comes the universe....well that is just cool ole folklore.   These are all still hand fabricated. 

Sculptural medallions came about when I first started carving wax in 2002.  Living on Miami beach, teaching alternative high school and training martial arts.  Blocks of wax transforming into unique pieces representing different experiences.  Lady living in between time , Running your mouth, flowing horse and spiral dragon.

This is when some Agfossils and Element tags were transformed into wax.

I love the detail possible from the hard wax carving surface.

Since living in Asheville  and opening my jewelery studio.  I have created some high fire stoneware medallions using my own molds.  touched with a bit of waterproof ink.

This is full circle for me in jewelry.  I have been surrounded by clay since I was 3 years old.   That is where my  passion for creative adornment began.
